Once upon a time, there was a man named Thach Sung. Initially, he was a poor beggar. However, thanks to sheer luck and clever trading, he became incredibly wealthy. He was proud of his massive fortune and believed he had everything in the world.
One day, Thach Sung met a royal relative named Vuong Khai, who was also famous for his riches. Thach Sung arrogantly challenged Vuong Khai to a contest of wealth. They signed a contract: whoever could not produce an item the other had would lose all their possessions.
They compared everything from gold, silver, diamonds to rare animals and coral trees. Surprisingly, they were equal. Finally, Vuong Khai smiled and asked: "Do you have a chipped clay pot? The kind poor people use to make fermented sauce?"
Thach Sung was shocked. Since he became rich, he had thrown away all his old, cheap things. He ordered his servants to search everywhere, but they could only find expensive porcelain bowls and jade cups. He could not find a simple, broken clay pot.
Having lost the bet, Thach Sung lost all his property to Vuong Khai. He became a beggar again. Overwhelmed by regret and anger, he died and transformed into a small gecko. Nowadays, the gecko often crawls on the ceiling, making a "tchk tchk" sound. People say he is clicking his tongue in eternal regret for his lost fortune.
"Tac Luoi" (Clicking Tongue): The sound of the gecko is interpreted as a sigh of regret. The story warns us not to forget our humble beginnings ("Don't forget the time of poverty when you are rich").
Value of Simple Things: Thach Sung lost everything because he despised a cheap, broken pot. This teaches us that even simple things have value and importance.
