Once upon a time, there were two brothers who lived in a small hut near a dense forest. They were both woodcutters and loved each other dearly. Their bond of brotherhood was known throughout the village; they were inseparable like hand and foot.
One day, a small misunderstanding occurred over a lost axe. The older brother, in a moment of anger, scolded the younger one. Feeling upset and hurt, the younger brother left the house and wandered deep into the forest. He sat under a tree, waiting for his anger to pass, but soon he became lost in the darkness.
The older brother quickly felt regret. He went out to search for his brother, calling his name loudly. However, the forest was vast and silent. The younger brother, cold and hungry, curled up in a small burrow near a grassy patch to find shelter from the wind.
Exhausted and overcome with grief, the younger brother passed away. His soul, unable to leave the world due to his longing for his brother, transformed into a small, black insect with shiny wings—a cricket.
Every night, the cricket sits by its hole, drinking dew from the grass and making a loud chirp: "Ri... Ri...". People say it sounds like he is calling for his brother in the quiet darkness. The sad sound reminds everyone to cherish their family and avoid petty arguments.
