Once upon a time, there was a frog that lived in a small, shallow well. He had lived there all his life and never stepped outside. The only creatures he saw were some small crabs and snails.
Because he was the largest animal in the well, he felt very powerful. Every time he croaked "Op op!", his loud voice echoed against the walls, making the small animals terrified. He thought he was a lord and the well was the entire universe.
When he looked up, he saw the sky through the mouth of the well. To him, the sky was only as big as a pot lid. He believed that the world was tiny and he was the most important ruler. He became very arrogant.
One year, a heavy rain fell for many days. The water in the well rose higher and higher until it flooded over the top. The frog was swept out onto the surface.
Used to his old ways, the frog wandered around carelessly. He looked up at the sky but refused to believe it was vast. He croaked loudly, expecting everyone to be scared. Suddenly, a large buffalo passed by. The buffalo did not see the tiny frog and trampled him under its hoof. That was the tragic end of the arrogant frog.
