Once upon a time, there was a little boy who was very playful and spoiled. His mother loved him dearly and always forgave him. One day, after being scolded by his mother for being naughty, the boy got angry and ran away from home.
He wandered around for many days. The mother, worried and sad, waited for him at the gate every day. She cried until she exhausted all her strength and collapsed. In her grief, she transformed into a strange tree with lush green leaves.
Finally, hunger and cold drove the boy back home. He called out: "Mom! Mom! I'm hungry!" But there was no answer. He saw the strange tree in the garden. He hugged the tree trunk and cried tearfully. Suddenly, the tree trembled. From the branches, a fruit dropped into his hand.
When he peeled the thin skin, a white, milky juice flowed out. It was sweet and delicious, just like his mother's milk. The leaves rustled in the wind, sounding like a whisper: "Eat, my child. I will always love you."
The boy realized the tree was his mother. He felt deep regret. He named the fruit "Vú Sữa" (Breast Milk Fruit), or Star Apple. Since then, the tree has been cherished as a symbol of maternal love that nourishes children even after death.
Maternal Love (Tình Mẫu Tử): The story honors the unconditional and eternal love of a mother. Even in death, she transforms into a tree to feed and comfort her child.
Vu Sua (Star Apple): "Vú Sữa" literally translates to "Breast Milk." The fruit's white, milky juice is a direct metaphor for mother's milk, symbolizing nourishment and care.
