Once upon a time, there was a hunter named Da Trang. One day, he saw two snakes. The male snake was trapped, and the female snake was trying to save him. Da Trang felt pity and helped rescue the male snake. To repay his kindness, the snake gave him a magical pearl.
When Da Trang held the pearl, he could understand the language of all animals. One day, he heard the birds talking about a coming flood. He immediately warned the villagers to move to higher ground. The flood came as predicted, and everyone was saved.
However, Da Trang had an enemy—a revengeful goose that wanted to trick him. The goose stole some clothes and dropped them in Da Trang's garden. He was accused of theft and put in jail. In jail, he used his pearl to help the King investigate crimes by listening to animals, and he was eventually released.
Later, Da Trang accidentally dropped his magical pearl into the ocean. He was desperate to get it back. He decided to fill the ocean with sand to make a path to find it. Day after day, he carried sand from the shore to the sea. The Sea King laughed at his futile effort.
Da Trang worked until he was exhausted and died. After his death, he transformed into a small sand crab. To this day, the sand crab still runs back and forth on the beach, rolling small balls of sand, trying endlessly to fill the vast East Sea to reclaim his treasure.
"Cong Da Trang" (Da Trang's Labor): This is a famous Vietnamese idiom referring to useless, futile effort that yields no result. "Da Trang carts sand into the East Sea; hard work wasted, nothing to be seen."
Persistence vs. Futility: While Dã Tràng shows determination, the story serves as a warning against pursuing impossible goals driven by regret.
"Công Dã Tràng": Đây là một thành ngữ nổi tiếng của Việt Nam chỉ những nỗ lực vô ích, không mang lại kết quả. "Dã tràng xe cát biển Đông, nhọc lòng mà chẳng nên công cán gì."
Kiên trì và Vô ích: Mặc dù Dã Tràng thể hiện sự quyết tâm, câu chuyện là lời cảnh báo về việc theo đuổi những mục tiêu bất khả thi do sự hối tiếc thúc đẩy.
