Once upon a time, in a green forest, there was a Hare who was very proud of his speed. He often bragged to other animals: "No one can run as fast as me!" One day, he saw a Tortoise walking slowly carrying his heavy shell. The Hare mocked him: "Look at you! You are so slow, you will never get anywhere!"
The Tortoise smiled calmly and said: "You may be fast, but I can beat you in a race." The Hare laughed loudly: "You? Beat me? That is a joke! Let's race to the top of the hill."
The race began. The Hare shot off like an arrow, leaving the Tortoise far behind. Seeing that he was so far ahead, the Hare thought: "I have plenty of time. I will take a nap under this tree and finish the race later." He lay down and fell asleep.
Meanwhile, the Tortoise kept walking. He walked slowly but steadily. He did not stop, he did not rest. He passed the sleeping Hare and continued towards the finish line.
When the Hare woke up, he saw the Tortoise near the top of the hill. He panicked and ran as fast as he could, but it was too late. The Tortoise had already crossed the line. The animals cheered for the winner. The Hare learned a valuable lesson about arrogance and perseverance.
Perseverance (Sự Kiên Trì): The famous saying "Slow and steady wins the race" means that consistency and determination are often more important than natural talent.
Arrogance (Sự Kiêu Ngạo): The Hare lost not because he was slow, but because he was overconfident. In Vietnamese culture, humility ("khiêm tốn") is a highly valued virtue.
